The Ideal Polo Shirt
Hello, this is Nishiwaki from THIRD PLACE.
For the first part of Golden Week, we introduced our extreme cashmere T-shirts, and I was so happy to see so many of you come, more than I could have imagined. I hope you'll cherish them for a long time.
(My apologies to those who had to wait to be served.)
We had prepared a good number, but they're starting to run low, so if you're interested, please come visit us.
Now, today I'd like to introduce the second part of our Golden Week project.

From Saturday, May 2nd, we will be unveiling the ideal polo shirt that I want to wear in summer.
Following the previous crew neck, MEIAS collaborated with us on a two-part series this season. This polo shirt is also a completely custom order exclusive to THIRD PLACE.
Originally, this was an item I had planned to introduce a little later, but during Golden Week, we are fortunate to have many visitors from far away and those we don't usually get to see. So, although it's a bit early for summer, we've prepared an item that can be used effectively in the coming season and can only be found here.

I've always loved polo shirts, and the opportunity arose when the MEIAS team told me, "We'll make the polo shirt you want, Nishiwaki-san."
When I think of polo shirts, three brands immediately come to mind: the original "Lacoste," the classic casual "Ralph Lauren," and the high-quality classic "John Smedley."
By the way, I'm a John Smedley fan.
It's a long-established British knitwear brand known for making clothes that are "simple yet overwhelmingly high quality," and I'm truly impressed by their ability to consistently create high-quality staples that can be worn for a long time.
I think I like it because it's simple but particular about quality, prioritizing "material and comfort" over logos, which I feel aligns with my own style.
There's just one concern: the sizing.
At 168cm, with neither long arms nor legs, and not particularly stylish, it was always a challenge to integrate the traditional, precise balance into my own fashion.
So, with respect, I specifically ordered this polo, aiming for the fashionability I desired.

Made from the same washable 100% silk fabric as the previous crew neck.
For a detailed explanation of the fabric, please read this blog post. I really love this fabric that MEIAS makes. It's thin yet sturdy, has an elegant feel, and most importantly, it's comfortable. It was truly the optimal fabric for the polo shirt I was aiming for.
So, I actually considered and chose this fabric specifically for this polo shirt, and then later thought, "This might be good for a crew neck too!" That's how it happened.
After creating and checking a sample, what I paid most attention to was the neckline.

The initial sample had a wider neckline than expected, and I felt that if the collar was too wide, it would look sloppy, so I made detailed requests for adjustments, such as making the neckline slightly smaller.
The team all shared their opinions, and the photo shows the final adjusted balance.
I always wear a white T-shirt as an inner layer, so I was particular about how it would look.
With one button open, this is my perfect balance.
I also paid attention to achieving a comfortable fit and a clean line even when all buttons are closed, so I believe even those with particular preferences will be satisfied.

Also, I made the sleeve length to about below the elbow, and the sleeve width with some room.
Normally, polo shirts might be shorter... but I want to hide my upper arms. LOL
It's the length I feel most comfortable with.

SIZE M (168cm)

SIZE L (168cm)

SIZE M (168cm)

SIZE L (168cm)
Length / Shoulder Width / Body Width / Sleeve Length
Size M : 63cm / 47cm / 57cm / 27cm
Size L : 65cm / 53cm / 62cm / 30cm
There are two sizes, M and L. Size M offers a moderately relaxed fit compared to a standard John Smedley, while size L provides a distinctly relaxed fit.
Many people might be able to wear both, but the suggestion is to choose based on how you want to wear it and express your own style.
As you can see from the size specifications, there's a significant difference in shoulder width, length, and sleeve length. Although the listed length might seem short, the ample width makes it feel longer than the numerical value, creating a nice drape.
The hem is boxed, so it should lay nicely.
It was created with a demanding balance, wanting to wear an elegant polo shirt in a relaxed way and stay comfortable even in mid-summer. As a result, by adopting this sizing, it doesn't look too neat or overly structured, which made me like it even more as it fits perfectly with the casual denim styles I've been proposing so far.

Miura got a size M, and it looks great even on women for a relaxed fit. Her pairing with Welcome Rain's ecru denim seems poised to become a staple style at THIRD PLACE.
It will blend in naturally, possessing elegance without being pretentious or forced.

I got a size L. It's quite roomy, so I'm looking forward to trying various pairings, anticipating future short styles.
By the way, if you are tall, there's still plenty of room, so choosing size L should be fine.

This polo shirt is our new everyday wear.
It offers the reassuring feeling of "if only I had this," and while using good materials, it also meets the criteria of being washable and easy to care for in daily life. We've carefully considered making it durable for long-term use. While it might be a bit pricey, it's a polo shirt that we completed with emphasis on quality over quantity, as a garment that will last.
I'm generally a new-clothes person for my everyday wear. While I appreciate the charm of vintage clothing, I still prefer clothes created in the present era for daily use.
In a world where social conditions and economies change daily, I am deeply moved by the creativity born from thoughtful consideration amidst various limitations and rules of that time and era. As a buyer, I feel fortunate to encounter so many such people and items.
This time, I planned this item from a現場目線 (on-site perspective), reflecting various experiences. The clothes are simple, so it might be difficult to convey, but...
I aimed for a polo shirt that could only be made in this day and age, and one that had a unique flavor specific to this place. It's simple, but I think it's a good piece of clothing.
Following the extreme T-shirt, we're introducing summer items that we truly believe are excellent.
And through these items, we hope to introduce this place to new people and enjoy meeting and communicating with all of you.
Many of you will probably be starting Golden Week in earnest tomorrow.
We'll be open every day during Golden Week, so I'm looking forward to seeing many of you.
See you all then!
Unveiling begins tomorrow, Saturday, May 2nd.
Sales will prioritize in-store customers, and depending on stock availability, online store sales will begin on Sunday, May 3rd, at 8:00 PM.
