THIRD PLACE interpreted by Spomenik
Hello, this is Nishiwaki from THIRD PLACE.
Following HELS, Spomenik, a brand that only makes bottoms, has had their designer KOTONA interpret and create special bottoms for THIRD PLACE.
I met KOTONA through an introduction made when I had dinner with the ANOTHER ASPECT team in Paris with Coco from Esmeralda Serviced Department , who was originally a friend of KOTONA, and we went around buying together .
To me, they are like older sisters, but KOTONA is just so powerful.
For some reason, we got along well from the start, and I don't think we even talked about clothes at first. However, as we gradually started talking about what we each do, we got passionate about our respective fashion styles, and that's how we ended up with this project.

When I visited the store, my catchy sense went off: there were strange, objet-like fixtures in a lovely space! When I asked about the fixtures, I found out that despite their adorable names "GOROMARU" and "MATSUYAMA," they were original pieces packed with functional specifications and attention to detail.
As people who create things, they experience the difficulties and joys of designing from scratch every day, so the expressions on the faces of the staff as they happily talked about the fixtures made a big impression on me, and I thought that this heartfelt and refined humor is THIRD PLACE's strength. So, what we created for THIRD PLACE this time is a pair of pants featuring a patchwork of the profiles of these two fixtures.
The one on the right is "GOROMARU" and the one on the left is "MATSUYAMA". The silhouette is a slightly thick straight silhouette with an elastic waistband and drawstring.
Ivory is a soft denim fabric with a loose twist and thick count, while Black is a thick, tightly woven cotton fleece fabric that has been brushed on both sides.
The brand concept is not "clothes that become a part of your life," but "clothes that become a part of THIRD PLACE."
THIRD PLACE interpreted by Spomenik

KOTONA-san is also a big fan of THIRD PLACE's original sweatshirts, and she suggested pants that would go well with the sweatshirt style based on her interpretation of Spomenik.
When they visited our store previously, they liked the fixtures, so this time we casually stitched the "profiles" of "GOROMARU" and "MATSUYAMA" (a bit twisted, haha) into the design of the pants. Using two materials, fleece and denim, we created bottoms that are perfect for us, with a unique look that is casual yet still has a casual feel.
Actually, KOTONA When my sister came to THIRD PLACE, she told me that she had never worn sweatshirts before. However, when she tried on a red hoodie, she said, "This looks good," and incorporated it into her wardrobe. Later, she told me on social media how much she liked it. Last Christmas, she also wrote me a letter saying how good it was, along with a postcard of a young DiCaprio. Lol
KOTONA I knew that my sister ran a brand that only made pants, so I made a bold request: "Then please make some pants to go with this sweatshirt," and this time she gave me a solid answer.

The silhouette is a slightly thicker straight silhouette with a drawcord waistband. The fabric is different but the silhouette is the same. Available in three sizes to suit all genders and ages.
I chose fleece pants that are perfect for the cold weather and denim pants that can be worn all year round. We don't have many pieces because we use archive and deadstock fabrics that have been lying dormant in factories.
I love fleece and denim, but it's great to have something made that feels different to me than I ever have before. What's more, it's even more exciting that the design has meaning to us.
The result is a great pair of bottoms that can be incorporated into a variety of styles, not just sweatshirts.

By the way, why only bottoms? I asked.
"Originally, my previous brand offered a full range of products, but at one point I thought it might be okay to offer just bottoms. I usually like to choose and wear the same things, and I tend to wear the same T-shirts, so bottoms were important for me to make a difference."
I can relate to that style in many ways, so I think it's really cool that she has gone all out and created a brand. At the same time, I'm interested in the pants that she creates, which are designed with that kind of thinking in mind.
Spomenik
"Spomenik" is a monumental structure in the former Yugoslavia that the designer himself visited while wandering around Eastern Europe. The name "Spomenik" refers to a huge structure in the former Yugoslavia that stands quietly in the middle of nature. The designer interprets the various feelings entrusted to this monumental structure, and creates pants that are part of a historical symbol and a symbol of reconciliation. These pants become a part of the wearer's own life, a tool to unravel history and traverse the future. The products are developed with the desire to make use of the architectural design of Spomenik and the wonderful archives and deadstock fabrics lying dormant in the factory. The brand concept is "clothes that become a part of your life."
