HERILL for Spring

Spring Herill has arrived.
This is a series I decided to propose to everyone at the perfect time, starting in April.
Since these items are only available at this time of year, I hope you'll read to the end.
The main feature of this series is its "fabric."
As I mentioned earlier, this series uses ripstop fabric.
Ripstop is not a material name, but a "weaving method" name, meaning "to prevent (stop) tearing (rip)". It was developed in the US during WWII to increase the durability of parachutes and military uniforms. While lightweight, it is resistant to tearing due to thick threads woven in a grid pattern, and even if it tears, the rip is prevented from spreading further.
Even today, it's a historic fabric widely used in mountaineering and other outdoor activities, sports, and workwear.
The greatest appeal of ripstop is its "durability," but a potential downside is that it can feel a bit stiff, and some people might be concerned about the peculiar rough texture when touching the surface. This is a characteristic of the fabric due to the thick reinforcing threads woven in a grid pattern, which reduces its suppleness and creates surface irregularities. Whether this is a good thing or not depends on individual preference.
So, what about Herill's ripstop? The key difference from regular ripstop, as I just explained, is that it is "extremely supple and exceptionally soft to the touch."
With advances in technology, it's now possible to weave with finer threads at higher densities, maximizing comfort while retaining the original characteristics and benefits.
Furthermore, while ripstop for outdoor and military use is typically nylon, Herill's is 100% cotton, maintaining a matte, natural texture while being a "high-quality fabric that prioritizes texture."
Although it's a brand that bases its designs on workwear and military wear, its approach to product development is excellent. It respects the essence of history while giving new meaning to creating new items, backed by the highest Japanese technology and experience from traditional factories, and innovative material development concepts.
I believe that because of this background, everyone naturally feels a sense of "satisfaction" with Herill's clothing.
And then there's black and brown, finished with product dyeing, which means they are dyed after being sewn into a finished product. The subtle unevenness around the seams gives them a nice vintage feel, and the dark brown shade, in particular, is exquisite.
Since the fabric already has character from the start, I think it will quickly feel comfortable and familiar.
Also, the true pleasure of ripstop is itsaging process. The more you wear it, the more the puckering around the seams will develop, and you can enjoy the changes over time.
Here are all three items made from that ripstop fabric.
First, the jacket.
The design source is the "P-41" coverall adopted by the USMC in the 1940s.
The shoulders and body width have been slightly adjusted to modern sizing, resulting in a highly versatile design.It features three patch pockets with a minimalist design. Leveraging the fabric's properties, it's incredibly lightweight.
Especially as the weather warms up, men's styles tend to become monotonous, so I personally find myself wanting a shirt jacket. This is the closest thing to my ideal image.
You can simply throw it over a spring knit, shirt, or T-shirt to create a stylish look, and it's not too formal, so it's a reliable item to have.
Next, easy pants.
Every year when it's time to wear just a shirt or T-shirt in the summer, I tend to struggle with finding pants that work. I'm always thinking, "Is there anything good I can wear?" but this year it seems like that problem will be solved.
I mostly wear denim all year round, so I don't have many pants that can be styled a bit more neatly, especially in hot weather. These pants were exactly what I was looking for.
The waist is elasticated, and simply cinching it creates a beautiful silhouette, making them easy to wear and giving off a great vibe. I highly recommend them to everyone.
They are easy to style and can be washed vigorously during sweaty seasons, so they are excellent from every perspective.
These shorts were recommended to me by Mr. Oshima.
He said, "Summers these days are too hot, so you want shorts, right?" and these were created with the idea of making shorts that adults could wear comfortably.
The waist, thigh, and hem widths are generously proportioned, so they don't accentuate body lines and offer a clean silhouette, providing a sense of security.
If you're not a fan of synthetic, sporty vibes and wanted something that works well as a fashion statement, these would be an excellent choice.
The balance between fabric and design in Herill is truly excellent, and the brand's core values are clearly conveyed.

This style represents my personal balance over the past few years.
From around Golden Week until June, and in autumn, I often wear a shirt jacket with a T-shirt, jeans, and sneakers—that's what feels comfortable to me.
My preferences haven't changed, but the brands and colors I choose have.
For example, I used to mostly wear wool T-shirts, but this year I've updated to extreme cashmere cotton T-shirts. We were finally able to prepare men's sizes, so I want to pair them naturally with jackets. (I'll introduce them properly later.)
My denim remains indigo or the ecru that I've become accustomed to, in a medium-thick straight cut. For footwear, I continue to choose functional sneakers.

This style consists of items I bought this season.
Recently, the New York brand "COLBO" that I was looking forward to arrived, and I had personally ordered this jacket. When I thought about how to wear it, the Herill pants I'm introducing today were the perfect match.
I didn't have black pants that I could wear in the summer, and a pair that feels as casual as chinos but not as formal as dress slacks is incredibly versatile. I'm very satisfied with them.

My usual sweat style is a bit more refined this season.
The MEIAS silk sweatshirt, which we started carrying this season, is incredibly comfortable. I've chosen adult casual items, and both the sweatshirt and pants are easy to wash, so their everyday usability remains unchanged.
Nevertheless, the dark brown shade is exquisite and also easy to coordinate, making me want to buy another one.

In recent years, I've started wearing shorts more as the weather gets hotter.
Until now, I mostly wore active nylon types, but this year I also wanted fashion-oriented shorts, so I chose these.
The tops I'm wearing are our silk knit and shirt that I revealed the other day, and I want to enjoy this look when it gets hotter. I wear both of them quite often, so they're showing some wear. If you already own them, I highly recommend this combination!
This year, I want to enjoy a chic shorts style!
I've combined them with new items and my personal belongings, but HERILL at THIRD PLACE is an indispensable presence, both as a "main player" and as a "connector."
