"Black" leather bag
Hello, this is Nishiwaki from THIRD PLACE.
As I've already posted on Instagram, we've found a "black" leather bag that we can truly embrace.
Before starting THIRD PLACE, several people had asked me to "find a nice black leather bag," and for the past few years, I've been tackling that challenge, looking at various brands and searching tirelessly.
And finally, I've found an answer that satisfies me.

And here it is.
This is a "black" leather tote made by the Japanese brand "HAAL," which has been with THIRD PLACE since its opening.
What was so good about it, and what were the conditions I was looking for? Please take a look first.
- Something ordinary yet with a unique characteristic
- Something of lasting quality
- Something not everyone else has
- Something that goes well with casual styles (sweatshirts, T-shirts, denim)
- Price range: under 50,000-70,000 yen
These were the requirements I was given. And HAAL was the brand that met them. Honestly, finding a "black" leather tote was the most difficult task I've had in all my buying experiences, precisely because there are so many of them out there. (laughs) But when it comes to choosing something that truly suits you, it really is difficult. I personally found it hard to find something that met the above criteria, especially the price point in this day and age... .
Now, let me explain in detail what makes it so good.

First, the biggest feature of HAAL bags is that they are made from a single piece of leather.
A craftsman works with a single piece of leather, adjusting its unique balance.
Each bag retains the unique scars and stains of the leather, highlighting the charm of the leather itself, and is sewn by folding the single piece of leather without cutting it.
This reflects the brand's philosophy of "sewing in a way that allows the breath of life to be felt," and embodies HAAL's desire to "convey the skill and spirit of the craftsman."

The stitching was so careful and beautiful that we were curious and turned it inside out.
As expected, the reverse side (suede) clearly shows that it's made from a single piece of leather.
And as a result, it can also be used reversibly.
The leather used in this bag is deerskin.
The front is grained leather, and the back is suede.
They both have different textures, but they're both so good that you'll want to use either side.

What I personally like is the length and width of the strap.
You'll notice it when you actually carry it, but a lot of thought has gone into how it fits around your arm when you're holding it.
The strap length isn't too long; it's set at a point where it naturally rests when you put your arm through it. Even when the bag gets heavy with contents, the strap is 3cm wide, so it doesn't dig uncomfortably into your shoulder, making it easy to carry for long periods. I thought this was very well considered. I'd like you to see it in the styling photos later, but another thing that impressed me was realizing that this length also prevents the bag from dragging on the floor when held by hand.

So, how big is it? It's like this.
I put in a 13-inch PC, a pouch, and two glasses cases, and I chose a size that fits the things I use most often.
Each of these bags is unique in size, but rest assured that this amount will fit in any of them.
It's big enough to carry your daily essentials and is also a perfect size for a 1-2 day business trip or travel.
Also, it might be a matter of preference, but this bag doesn't have any partition pockets.
Personally, I prefer bags without them. I've grown to like being able to just throw things in more and more over the years.
I'm not someone who usually carries a lot of stuff, but in recent years, I've found pouches very useful, so I put my mobile battery and everything else in pouches. This makes it easy to switch bags, so it's become my routine.

The reason we couldn't choose a "black" leather bag until now was that it always looked too "dressy" with casual styles.
This might sound like a fashion-related point, but when choosing accessories, I can't compromise... It's really important whether it blends in with the clothes I'm wearing and matches my style.
Amidst this, I encountered HAAL's bag.
It blends in nicely with the style we've cultivated so far.
Above all, I can clearly feel how HAAL's creators want their bags to be used, and it also makes me appreciate the excellence of Japanese craftsmanship. In every aspect, I felt this was the bag I wanted to choose.
