THIRD PLACE episode #4
Hello, this is Yota.
In my last blog, I talked about the architecture, and in it I said, "I want to get rid of the built-in cash register and shelves." However, to be clear, it's not like there's really nothing in the space. Today, I'd like to tell you about the fixtures at THIRD PLACE, which were created because they valued the white space in the architecture.
Their names are "CRISPY," "GOROMARU," and "MATSUYAMA."
If you just look at the words, you might wonder what they mean, but they are an essential part of THIRD PLACE.

The first thing you'll see as you enter the entrance is "CRISPY."
The THIRD PLACE island was completed using bamboo collected from Shiga Prefecture, a major bamboo producing region.
The design features three rows of green bamboo stalks. A throne is wrapped around it.
People have already started using it like a bench, and when they come to THIRD PLACE, they can put their belongings here, sit down and chat, and spend their time as they like.
By the way, the height is 33.3cm. They are all unified with the number 3, in honor of the third place.
You'd never know unless someone told you (lol) There's a hidden attention to detail.
By the way, this is where the name and shape come from .

Next With its brother "GOROMARU (rugby ball)" "MATSUYAMA (golf ball)".
The striking GOROMARU is a popular character at THIRD PLACE.
(By the way, golf balls Bridgestone and rugby balls are Molten.
GOROMARU is an indispensable storage unit at THIRD PLACE, supporting us in our daily lives by providing a place to store items and fold clothes.
On the other hand, his younger brother, MATUSYAMA, is very thoughtful. There are four drawers in total, and a PC stand where he does detailed work. One of the four drawers is a hidden drawer, and the contents are changed regularly to hold special items (secret menu).
You'll have to come to our store to find out what's inside.
I had them both fitted with casters so that they could be moved around to make the most of the space. I wanted to be able to decide on the placement depending on the situation, so they were able to accommodate that.
By the way, it was our staff who came up with the names GOROMARU and MATSUYAMA (lol). They said it without thinking when they saw the finished product, and the names were decided unanimously.

I've given you a brief introduction, but the fixtures, like the architecture, were designed by Kobayashi.
When considering the fixtures, one thing that was important to everyone was not to simply select and place things that were valuable, but to think about what was necessary for the space.
You'll understand if you take a look, but even though the designs may seem innovative at first glance, the materials and shapes used are somehow familiar, so I think there is a sense of familiarity to them.
For example, the details of GOROMARU and MATUSYAMA were decided based on the idea of a park, which is a type of third place, and a ball, and they were linked to the space and concept while still being humorous and distinctive.
In the case of "CRISPY," for example, the consistent details in number 3 link to the "at first glance ordinary but distinctive style" that I value and want to convey, and I would be very happy if people find this "difficulty to understand" amusing.
The lighting is also made by a Japanese paper craftsman from my hometown of Gifu, which is a link to my roots. I think it's a really rich space in many ways.

The person who produced these three items this time is Hart, who is currently based in Hachioji.
"They were all tricky, haha," he said, and it seemed like he had a hard time, but with the time he was short, Thank you so much for taking on the project until it was completed.
Haruto himself is a very interesting person, and I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of products he will create in the future. If you're interested, please check out this link .
